Back to School, Back to a Routine With Your Dog

Dogs are creatures of habit. They like to know what's coming next and may take time to respond to change. As the kids go back to school, our pups won’t have the luxury of getting to play with the kids all day. Time at school, homework, and extracurricular activities oftentimes gets in the way between kids and dogs. This can be very hard on some dogs. So, as the kids go back to school, you must help your dog adjust.

The best way to help them is by getting them into a doggie daycare where they can meet other dogs and socialize with people. This will help them get back into their routine so that they don't get stressed out by the change in their schedule or behavior. Bringing them to doggie daycare is a great way to help them adjust to their routine!

Here are some other ways to help your dog create their routine with doggie daycare:

Make sure your dog has a good relationship with the staff and can relax in their presence.

Did you know that dogs can understand a person’s personality?

A study published in the Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews claims that dogs can recognize factors that make up a person's personality. They can even use these factors to determine whether or not they want to associate with that person.

So, if you are bringing your dog to doggie daycare, you will want to ensure they are comfortable around the staff.

Because nothing beats a dog that is comfortable in a new place, if you drop off your dog and they are nervous or anxious, they will not have as much fun. You want them to be able to relax and enjoy themselves while they are there! So, assure you have taken your time to build a good relationship with the staff and that your dog is comfortable around them.

Bring a favorite toy or treat that they can associate with being at daycare.

Toys and treats!

Isn't that what makes our furbabies wag their tails excitedly with their ears perked up to the sky? We love giving them toys and treats, but most of all, they also love receiving them. So bring a favorite toy or treat they can associate with being at daycare. This will help their routine feel less foreign and more comfortable. It will help them feel more comfortable with their new environment, which makes the transition easier for everyone.

Don't forget to take note of any medical issues or concerns that would affect their time at daycare.

Health should be the priority when bringing a pet to daycare. If you have an animal with any medical issues, it is vital to ensure these are taken care of before they come in. This includes but is not limited to vaccinations, flea and tick treatments, and general health checkups.

It could also lessen the risk of spreading illnesses to other animals in the daycare. If you have any questions about your pet's health or concerns about them being around other animals, it is best to talk with a veterinarian before bringing your pet in for daycare.

Plus, lousy health may affect your dog's routine, making them less fun to be around. This could lead to behavior problems in the daycare that may not happen otherwise.
