DIY Bunny Toys

Do you have a pet bunny? Floppy is a super cute pet, and lots of fun to watch and play with. One thing that is very important for your bunny is making sure she has plenty of toys. Bunnies not only need entertainment, they also must chew quite a bit to prevent painful dental issues. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend a lot of money on rabbit toys. There are lots of great ones you can make yourself at home! A local North Phoenix, AZ vet lists some great DIY rabbit toys below.

Cardboard

The tubes from toilet paper or paper towel rolls can be upcycled to make several fun playthings. Cut them into rings, and reassemble them, stack them into pyramids, or fill them with fresh herbs or hay. Your adorable little pet may even enjoy playing with plain ones!

Food Toys

Just like any other pet, Floppy loves snacks. String a piece of twine between two chairs, and use wooden clothespins to hang some leafy greens from it for her to nibble on. You can also stuff a paper lunch sack with fresh herbs.

Paper

Plain copy paper can also help keep your furry buddy entertained. Shred some pieces, and put them in a tissue box for your furry pal. Or, crumple pieces up around a yummy snack. You can also make shapes for your bunny out of plain paper.

Boxes

Boxes can be lots of fun for bunnies! Make Floppy a little box castle to hop on and play in. Or, use shoeboxes to build a maze for your fuzzy pal. Another option is to fill a plastic storage tote with dirt, shredded paper, or hay, and put bury fun toys in it. Bunnies love to dig!

Wooden Shapes

Many wooden objects can make terrific bunny toys. Wooden spoons and children’s blocks are a few good options. Just be sure to clean and disinfect them before giving them to Floppy. Also, avoid pine and cedar objects, as they aren’t safe for small animals.

Tips

Always put Floppy’s safety first. Never give your bunny anything with sharp edges or small parts. You’ll also want to avoid anything covered in decorative substances, like paint, varnish, or glitter. Ask your vet for more tips on safe and unsafe toys.
