5 Great New Year’s Resolutions for Pet Parents

Happy New Year! As we leave 2015 behind and start out a brand new year, many of us are setting new resolutions. For pet parents, this is a wonderful time to take a close look at your furbaby’s care regimen, and see if anything needs improvement. We can help! Below, a North Phoenix, AZ vet offers some great resolutions for pet owners.

Veterinary Care

Most of our furry patients should see us at least once a year, though younger pets and senior furballs may need to come in more often. Regular examinations can be very beneficial, as they allow your vet to monitor your furbaby’s overall health, and check for any developing problems. If you notice any signs of illness in between visits, contact your vet immediately.

Parasite Control

Make sure to keep up with your pet’s parasite control products! Fleas and ticks can both transmit other parasites, as well as dangerous diseases. Heartworm prevention is also very important, particularly for dogs. These nasty parasites can make your pup very ill, and can even be fatal. Luckily, it’s easy to keep our furry pals safe with regular preventative care. Ask your vet for more information.

Proper Diet

Good nutrition is essential to your pet’s health and well-being. If you can afford it, consider upgrading to a higher quality pet food. If you haven’t spoken to your vet about your pet’s diet recently, we recommending going over your furry pal’s menu at your next appointment. Ask about supplements and portion control as well.

Toys

Our furry pals need lots of fun toys to keep them from getting bored. Set reminders to buy or make your pet new toys regularly, and change out your furry buddy’s playthings often to keep things fresh and exciting. We also recommend playing with your furbaby daily, even if only for a few minutes. Your pet will benefit both physically and mentally. There’s a good chance you’ll find yourself smiling, too!

Quality Time

Remember to carve out some quiet time with your pet. Our furry friends’ love, support, and friendship are definitely something to be cherished! Take time to enjoy the special bond of love we have with our animal companions.
